The first ever submersible UHPC composite bridge in Malaysia

The Long Lambor Bridge with a length of 404 m

The demand for ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC) has continued to grow over the last decade especially in Asia, Europe and North America. Today, we can witness an increasing number of standard type UHPC bridges being built in countries such as Malaysia, China, India and Vietnam. Recent trends indicate that China has been proactively exploiting the local use of UHPC technology in multiple projects in the past 5 years. Government agencies, consultants, technical institutions and asset owners have come together to specify UHPC bridges in their projects and some are even using UHPC as an alternative design solution. Since 2018, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways of the Indian Government has also been actively implementing the use of UHPC technology in their “Best Practice in Road Construction” programme. A large number of infrastructure projects are on-going in India and the government of India has therefore predicted that UHPC technology can offer solutions for sustainable bridge construction with an overall reduction in life-cycle costs and minimized maintenance requirements.
