Powders from crushed brick as replacement for fly ash in concrete manufacture

Developing new cycles

The cement consumption involved in manufacturing concrete is responsible for a substantial input of CO2 into the atmosphere. To reduce this input, the production of composite cements is being stepped up, in which cement clinker is replaced by supplements. Unfortunately, the availability of supplements, such as fly ash or blast furnace slag, is decreasing – caused by opting out of fossil fuels – even if the speed at which it is taking place is variable. New substances have to be found to compensate for this – as in the overview given by Lothenbach [1], Juenger [2], Ludwig [3] and Paris [4].
