The Indian prime minister has launched an ambitious initiative to build 20 million houses for the urban poor in around 500 Indian cities in the next seven years. It will not be easy to implement the grand scheme, given the number of hurdles that need to be overcome. However, even if the initiative is only partially implemented, it will offer tremendous oppor- tunities for suppliers of building materials.
