In 1988, a high performance concrete with an excellent deformability in the fresh state as well as high resistance to segregation was developed in Japan. This new concrete with the capability to fill the formworks without any vibration or compaction, and passing through the reinforcement bars without blocking while keeping its cohesiveness, has been defined as Self-Compacting Concrete (SCC) [1]. This is a significant evolution since it originated from normal vibrated concrete consisting of the four basic components: cement, fine and coarse aggregates, and water. A more evolved SCC with six components was obtained by adding chemical admixtures (superplasticizers and, eventually, viscosity modifying admixtures) to those four components and the mineral admixtures – the fines, (which can be pozzolanic and non-pozzolanic) [2].
