Designing high-strength, shear-forceconnections with double-shear rods –after approval according

Deutsche Kahneisen Gesellschaft mbH, 12057 Berlin, Germany

Double-shear rods were developed from the idea of high shear-force transfer between concrete elements via joints by means of a longitudinally moveable but rigid steel structure. Deutsche Kahneisen Gesellschaft mbH recognised the advantages of this type of solution early on and introduced a product with these properties in Germany at the end of the Eighties under the brand name Jordahl® Doppelschubdorn (JDSD). Double-shear rods have since been found to be effective as a universal solution for the transfer of shear-forces again and again all over the world. They were developed further and approved for the first time in 2001 for high-strength and corrosion-resistant Duplex steel 1.4462. Prior to the introduction of the DIN 1045-1 standard, investigations were carried out with the aims of discovering the possible limiting conditions for load-bearing capacity and fitness for use separately and introducing these into the Partial Safety Concept of the new JDSD approval with corresponding models. The following article briefly describes the possible applications, then discusses the dimensioning concept of the new approval Z.15.7-237 and shows the significance of this in engineering practice.
