In 2002, the Italian Railways track owner (Rete Ferroviaria Italiana) decided that by 2006, all sleepers purchased must comply with the latest Euro Norms for pre-stressed monobloc sleepers. Thus, coupled with an aggressive new building program for High Speed (300 Km/h) passenger line required that all producers renovate and upgrade their factories.
