With its new REACH regulation, the European Union (EU) added a very complex and ambitious piece of legislation to increase overall control on chemicals, uses of chemicals and products containing chemicals. According to the scope of the regulation, its aim is to ensure a high level of protection of human health and the environment from chemical substances, while enhancing competitiveness and innovation. Although the ambition is in itself remarkable, one must state that, one year after entering into force, the content is first not completely fixed, but more, parts are already questioned. The volume of guidance documents already published and under preparation to help industry to understand and to apply the content represents a multiple of the regulation itself.
