With conventional construction elements, reinforcing steels or wire mesh reinforcements are normally incorporated into the concrete in order to improve its tensile strength. Steel fibre concrete is characterised by the fact that precisely calculated quantities of steel fibres are added to the freshly mixed concrete. When the concrete sets, these steel fibres become securely bound into the structure of the concrete block. The result is a considerably higher compressive strength and, especially with regard to bending stress, a far greater “capacity for work” as well as substantially less cracking.
