The use of ultrasonic pulse velocity measurements for non-destructive testing of concrete was first documented in the 1940s. The earliest commercial instrument to be truly portable was developed by CNS Electronics in 1972. Since that time the name Pundit has become synonymous with portable ultrasonic testing for concrete. Subsequent generations of Pundits have brought continual improvement and established the instrument as the industry standard. In 2009 CNS Farnell was acquired by the Swiss NDT company Proceq. This merger has led to a revitalization of the Pundit tradition and has paved the way for a new generation of instruments intended to realize the full potential of ultrasonic testing on concrete.
