High-Strength Concrete for prestressedconcrete structures

Practical design guidelines

High-strength concrete (HSC) with a design strength of more than 60 N/mm2 has recently been applied in practice to prestressed concrete (PC) bridges. Adopting HSC for structures allows the use of smaller members and longer spans, a reduction in girder height and enhanced durability. Therefore, high value-added or high-performance structures that cannot be realized with normal-strength concrete (NSC) can be constructed. However, adequate design and construction guidelines for high-strength concrete have not yet been established for PC structures. Therefore, there is a pressing need to develop design and construction guidelines for the effective design and construction of PC structures with HSC. This paper proposes an outline for such guidelines.
