Fraunhofer researchers have developed a process that produces biogenic construction materials based on cyanobacteria. These multiply in a nutrient solution through photosynthesis. If additions and fillers such as sand, basalt or renewable raw materials are added, rock-like solid structures are formed. In contrast to traditional concrete production, no climate-damaging carbon dioxide is emitted in the process; instead, it is bound in the material.
