Founded in 1977, Prefer, with its three production facilities and administrative headquarters, is located in the vicinity of Liege and belongs to the Groupe Gustave Portier Industries, a prominent company in the land. Gustave Portier Industries is active in three sectors: logistics, environmental protection and as supplier for the construction industry. As regards the latter domain, Prefer manufactures precast in the most varied shapes and sizes. Each of the three production facilities is specialised in one product segment. In one factory, Prefer manufactures railway sleepers for tram and metro construction work. Prestressed concrete sleepers for the Belgian railway’s high-speed tracks are also produced there. At a second site, Prefer manufactures individual components for civil engineering and road construction. In its third facility, only concrete paving blocks are produced. This production line was completely modernised just recently. The French firm, Quadra from Contamine sur Arve, was entrusted with the order of delivering and installing the block-maker and handling systems. The old plant was re - moved and the new production line set up in the existing hall.
