Truck mixer drum as self-contained mixing facility

Alternative Mixing Systems

The main task of the truck mixers normally employed by the ready-mix concrete industry is to maintain the freshly mixed concrete from a concrete production facility in movement during travelling time so as to prevent any segregation. This is accomplished by means of a two-start spiral blade in the truck mixer’s drum. According to the drum’s direction of rotation, concrete can either be drawn in and kept in motion or expelled. As a general rule, however, these two-start mixing helixes play only a minor role in the mixing activity itself, since the main intention is to feed in the concrete rapidly and then empty the drum in a targeted, uniform way. Any segregation of the concrete during transport can be avoided reliably by the drum turning slowly and uniformly at 1-2 rev/min (agitation speed).
