C³ project wins well-respected Energy Globe World Award

C³- Carbon Concrete Composite e.V., 01067 Dresden, Germany

Concrete – the material used most frequently worldwide after water – has always led to a high consumption of raw materials. The manufacture of cement alone is responsible for about 6.5% of total carbon dioxide emissions. That is approximately equivalent to three times the amount of CO2 emitted by global air traffic. Despite that the structures have only a limited life span of 40 to 80 years. The solution: a new type of construction using carbon fibre reinforced concrete. The steel in the concrete is replaced by carbon. Carbon doesn't corrode, therefore the concrete that protects the steel against corrosion is saved. As a result, up to 80% less material is used.
