Compacting concrete is closely related to shaping concrete since a formless mass is transformed into geometrically defined, semi-solid body (fresh concrete) by moulding and compaction. In this process, the compaction procedure is intended to compensate to a large extent for the concrete mass’s porosity and generate a reduction in cavity volume, in particular with a view to improving strength, impermeability and dimensional stability.
