...Algeria Enormous growth in electricity demand throughout Algeria has necessitated the erection of electricity pylons. This particularly affects areas with a Sahara climate, in which sand storms occur accompanied by considerable abrasive action. These concrete pylons for low and medium voltage lines are prestressed concrete masts produced by three state-owned businesses, Transcanal Centre, Est and Ouest, in accordance with the provisions of Sonelgaz, the governmental company for electricity and gas. With the aim of modernising and increasing production, Otep, a company well-known for its competence and expertise in the domain of prestressed concrete, gained the contract for the delivery and installation of up-to-date manufacturing facilities whose yearly output is today around 130,000 units.
