Articles in this series about Industry 4.0 have shown how precast concrete production facilities can draw step by step closer to the next stage of the industrial revolution. In this process, vision must always be measured against practical relevance and economic efficiency. Precast production facilities today already meet some of the requirements of Industry 4.0. There are production facilities manufacturing with lot-size 1 together with integrated data management. This ranges from planning using CAD through CAM controlled production to delivery at a construction site and integrating precast into a building. In this network, systems from differing manufacturers work hand in hand and exchange data in real time. These are all aspects of Industry 4.0. The following article looks at how the new Unitechnik CAD CAM Interface in XML format can contribute still further to improving free data exchange at all stages of a manufacturing process.
