Reinforcement Geometry and its effect on Anchorage Performance and Integrity

Innovation and its Practical Application

In this paper novel anchorage methods leading to improved structural integrity are studied. Furthermore, this study showed that concrete slabs reinforced with dovetail shaped polypropylene fibres (CoReFibreTM) lessened the risk of fragmentation and significantly improved ener- gy absorption. Mathematical modelling of the re-entrant features that characterise novel rebar (CoReBarTM) reinforcement was carried out to advance the understanding of the anchorage mechanism. Both experimental work with fibres and predictive modelling studies with rebar have demonstrated that the properties of the reinforcement are significantly improved and that certain geometric re-entrant features provide a distinct dynamic effect as compared with traditional reinforcement.
