Durability has been considered the most important performance criterion for the concrete structures, given that, in harsh urban environments, achieving good performance almost always leads to good performance in terms of their mechanical properties. Brazilian standards provide guidelines for projects, execution and control, in order to make concrete structures more durable [1-3]. This paper presents the design characteristics of the concrete structures of the stadiums that will host the opening and final matches of the 2014 FIFA World Cup. With a focus on durability, we present a discussion of the characteristics of the designed concrete structures, the advancement in the use of prefabrication and the importance of decisions during the implementation phase in order to meet the regulatory guidelines.
