Heavy current flows through the main aluminum busbars of ISAL, the aluminum smelting plant in Straumsvík, Iceland. Laying the so-called bus bars in reinforced concrete is risky, because induction currents can heat the reinforcing steel to up to 400 degrees Celsius. Then the con- crete cracks and becomes instable. This can be avoided with ComBar from Schöck, as the non-conductive glass-fibre reinforcement remains unaffected by electromagnetic fields.
