Design of a Triangular Precast PostTensioned Concrete Box Girder

Parsons Brinckerhoff, New York, NY 10119

For the signature structure at the entrance to the Cincinnati Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG), the planning and development staff of the airport wanted a structure whose architecture would follow an “Aviation” theme. Several concepts were evaluated and a triangular concrete box, whose shape evokes the look and feel of a wing, was selected for the 2-lane, 466m long flyover ramp. Detailing of this striking structure and its ancillary features also followed the Aviation theme.
