High-resistance concretes and corrosionprevention systems for wastewater systems

Durability of concrete pipes

Building materials in wastewater systems are exposed to high corrosive stresses due to aggressive media. For a building project by the Emschergenossenschaft in Germany with a total investment volume of 4.5 billion euros, the CPC company developed an evaluation scheme for the use of suitable materials in the construction of wastewater systems: Accordingly, the most important step for the selection of materials when planning of a new construction is the estimation (modelling) of potentially occurring corrosive media or, when planning renovation, the identification of the media on site. For the choice of materials, the very much simplified rule is: the most important damaging substances are sulphuric acid from thiobacilli for concrete and halogenated and aromatic hydrocarbons for synthetics.
