Durability Performance of Plain andFiber Reinforced Self-Compacting Concrete

Results from Southern Europe

The development and application of self-compacting concrete implies significant advantages with respect to conventional vibrated concrete. Such improvements are derived from its fresh properties, mainly due to its flowability. However, the composition of self-compacting concrete is generally different to that of conventional concrete, since it usually involves a relatively high content of paste and water reducing admixtures. Probably due its short history, there not many studies dealing with the durability of self-compacting concrete under aggressive atmospheric agents like CO2 and Cl-. This work presents preliminary results of a comparative durability study on conventional self-compacting concrete and fiber reinforced self-compacting concretes when exposed at different aggressive environments; urban and urban-marine ambient.
