Comparison of workability and mechanicalproperties of normal and lightweight SCCswith and withou

A study from Turkey

The mixture design, workability, mechanical properties and fracture behavior of normal and lightweight self compacting concrete (SCC) mixtures with and without steel fibers were studied. The results have presented that the steel fiber reinforced SCCs show a behavior of enhanced toughness and ductility compared to concretes without fibers, especially for the lightweight SCC mixtures. The main contribution of steel fibers to lightweight concrete can mainly be observed after the matrix cracking. Steel fibers in the matrix arrest microcracks, bridge these cracks and limit large propagation.
