Due to the current general negative trend in the construction industry, ready-mixed concrete is facing difficulties. Looking to the foresee able future from a number of points of view the paper tries to describe which options are available for market development. In 2008 the author presented “A look into the future”, a paper which besides giving the historical background of ready-mixed concrete as a construction material, tried to identify what at that time seemed to be the foreseeable trends for the development of this product. Two years later, the world economic crisis which has hit the whole economy as well as the construction sector in the most countries requires a reassessment of which of the ideas outlined at the time are still valid, which need to be reviewed and a reconsideration of foreseeable new challenges, if any.
