In Poland a great deal of emphasis is still being placed on investments in renewable energy sources. In accordance with the strategic goals set by the EU in the field of energy policy, by the year 2020 the consumption of renewable energy should be increased to 15 % of the gross final consumption of energy. In addition, Poland has committed to lowering greenhouse gas emissions by 14 % compared to the year 2005. Currently energy is primarily still produced in thermal power stations. Wind energy is the second most popular alternative, right after biofuels.
