Challenging Situations for Precasting

Three Project Cases

Feasibility of structural prefabrication is commonly believed to be bound to industrialized regions, for offering its typical advantages in matching the construction needs. However, applications can be valuable and convenient also in areas far from any industrial environment; namely, if large projects are to be developed where traditional construction facilities are not at hand. In such situations, precast concrete can prove the most appropriate in meeting the projects’ requirements and in taking advantage of local technical and logistic means as well as of human and natural resources. By presenting three cases in which they were involved, starting from the conceptual stage throughout planning design production and construction, and optimum solutions were developed for both the building features and the construction processes, the authors aim to show how the above consideration can find practical replies.
