Air voids entrained by fibres –an effect on durability?

The results of research from Austria

The aim of the investigation was to make an initial assessment of the effect of fibres on the air void content (coarse and fine voids) in both fresh and hardened concrete, and from this to obtain parameters relevant to concrete technology. As the evidence for a higher level of entrained air as a result of the addition of fibres grows, the question arises of whether this additional air has a positive or negative effect on durability.
