When handling pipes with conventional mechanical round grabs, the load may slip out in critical situations. This can take place for example, if the pipe is set down by mistake on the edge of the trench or on an installation cross beam, or if the carrying device is operated incorrectly. This relieves the round grab (slack rope formation) and the load may slip out. Since in practice it cannot always be avoided that workers are standing in the trench when setting down the pipe, this can lead to very dangerous situations.
