Formwork and seals for carbon concrete

B.T. innovation GmbH, 39116 Magdeburg, Germany

Building with carbon concrete has great advantages over building with reinforced concrete. With a lower weight, the thinner and therefore lighter components also have a high load-bearing capacity and tensile strength. At the same time, in contrast to steel, textile reinforcement is corrosion-resistant, allows a minimum concrete cover and requires less cement. As part of the BMBF joint project Industrial Standard Carbon Concrete (Rubin), B.T. innovation GmbH has adapted and redeveloped magnet and shuttering systems for the production of carbon concrete precast elements. The greatest challenge for the formwork was the low component thickness of the elements to be produced, with component thicknesses between 30 mm and 60 mm. Complex, large 3D components can be produced with complex formwork in a single work step or in several work steps from smaller 2D and 3D prefabricated elements by sealing the working and component joints. In the case of components made of carbon concrete, the often low component thickness and the high-strength concretes used in some cases limit the type and number of possible sealing systems. In the second part of the project, some of the sealing systems suitable in principle for thin-walled elements with high-strength concrete were evaluated, adapted and refined.
