Commercially available software for the design of concrete mixes enables the development of concrete according to standards and regulations and is usually based on the common models according to Funk and Dinger or Fuller. This approach offers little freedom in the design and adaptation to today’s CO2 problem, which requires a strict reduction of cement content. The model according to Fruhstorfer offers the possibility to better distinguish between fine and coarse aggregate fractions and therefore develop a better gradation in the overall particle size distribution in the mix. The implementation of the Ψ model in a free MS Excel application enables the user to quickly and reliably develop concrete mix formulations that can be optimized for all particle sizes including the fines.
