Fibres for concrete – a highly regarded alternative and addition to conventional steel reinforcement

Special topic: Concrete Fibre Technology

Fibres for concrete are available in numerous types and variants. The most well-known fibre materials are steel and plastic; other choices include fibres made of basalt, glass, carbon and natural renewable raw materials. Concrete fibres have been available on the market for about 50 years as an alternative to traditional steel reinforcement and are often the material of choice when conventional steel bars or mats alone cannot provide the required engineering properties to the reinforced concrete member. All fibres have one aspect in common: if used correctly, they improve the mechanical properties of concrete.
