To introduce a new product into a consolidated market is always a challenge, even for those products like ultra-high-performance fiber reinforced concrete (UHPFRC), which have already proven their value in other countries. It is even harder if this product is not included in the relevant local regulations, as is the case with UHPFRC in Colombia. This is the reason why local research and developments, both in relation to mix composition and practical applications, are of vital importance for the wider acceptance and use of UHPFRC. The paper herein presented aims to expound the achievements of research on UHPFRC, as well as the practical applications of the material in Colombia, using examples from the past ten years. Investigations into dosages have resulted in more economical and environmentally friendly material compositions with low cement content and excellent mechanical and durability properties. The practical applications using locally patented mix designs have further demonstrated the viability of UHPFRC in the construction of pedestrian bridges, urban furniture and overlays.
