The precast construction is often undervalued for its qualities beyond construction efficiency. The recent developments of the specialist contractors have made the precast method more adaptable to most demanding visual and cost requirements of projects. It is not unusual to hear such quotes from representatives of this method as – ‘… we can achieve ‘this’ look in precast as well …’ or ‘… we can match the brick/ GRC/ stone design with precast …’ Despite the ambition of manufactures, the stakeholders and consumers seem to be reluctant to pursue the precast method. There are number of cultural, procurement, design and construction factors that influence this attitude. Seemingly underrecognised method of building with precast concrete panels requires a critical overview involving aspects ranging from historical events, public’s disposition to procurement and technical performance of the precast panel.
