Peaceful perceptions of crowded streets and squares have undergone major changes since the increase in number of terrorist attacks with vehicles. Clever constructional protection measures can be employed in preventing attacks such as those in August 2016 on the beach promenade in Nice or in December 2016 at Breitscheidplatz in Berlin, causing numerous deaths and injuries.
