3D printing or Additive Manufacturing (AM) describes all processes in which energy is used to solidify material under computer control is to fabricate a three-dimensional object according to digital information. One advantage of AM is that custom parts can be fabricated without generating extra costs. In addition, complex parts can be fabricated which could not be fabricated with other methods. Hence, AM promises the automated production of parts within a single process, for which otherwise multiple fabrication steps would be necessary.
