Textiles as reinforcing structures in concrete elements make filigree construction methods possible whilst providing for vast geometrical freedom of design. They do, however, need to be positioned precisely in a construction component. At the present time, this is carried out manually and so is a major factor in the high costs relating to textile reinforced concrete. A new hybrid reinforcement with integrated spacers has been developed jointly at the Institute of Textile Technology (ITA) of RWTH Aachen University with two partners from the industry, the Albani Group GmbH & Co. KG and DuraPact 2.0 Kompetenzzentrum Faserbeton GmbH. This new material is appreciably more competitive as it decreases the time needed for positioning reinforcement by up to 60%.
