After the fall of the communist system in the Central European countries (among others, Hungary and Romania), the precast concrete industry, that had until then been characterized by mass production of functional but rather unattractive buildings, took a decisive turn. In addition to long-span hall frame structures, residential uses for precast elements became more and more important. The challenges facing the building industry such as the lack of skilled human labour could be addressed by developing new materials and structural systems. Among others, these circumstances changed the features of this industry.
