Design of precast concrete structures with regard to accidental loading – Part 3: Standard requireme

Present knowledge and guidelines for the design of precast structures against progressive collapse

In the two preceding articles on the design of precast concrete structures with regard to accidental actions, published in CPI - Concrete Plant International, Issue 3 and 4, 2012, the phenomenon of progressive collapse, as a consequence of an initial damage to one or more load bearing structural components are discussed, and methods for the design of precast buildings are explained. The present third article gives an overview of international standard requirements for the categorization of buildings into risk consequence classes. It concludes with a critical analysis of typical connections in precast concrete structures.
