Articles in this series about Industry 4.0 have shown how precast production facilities can draw step by step closer to the next stage of the industrial revolution. In this process, vision must always be measured against practical relevance and economic efficiency. Automated concrete spreaders are not new and in fact represent Industry 3.0. In the past, their full potential often remained unexploited and at times they ended up being operated manually again. This report describes where technical challenges are to be found with automated concrete spreaders. In addition, it will identify what the industry expects from such systems and how Unitechnik has implemented these requirements. A robust, automated system forms the basis for further digitisation and networking and thus also for Industry 4.0.
