Action of obstructions to transverse expansion on load-bearing behaviour

Prestressed precast concrete floors (hollowcore prestressed concrete floors) are mainly utilised in industrial structures, garages, event halls, residential and commercial buildings as well as in the renovation of existing properties. This construction method is favoured in cases where large areas have to be spanned without supports or else only minor floor dead weight loading can be introduced due to the means of conducting loads in a load-bearing structure. Other advantages in comparison with conventional in-situ concrete floors are a high degree of prefabrication, minor component moisture and a resource friendly utilisation of construction materials [1]. The paper at hand will present the results of theoretical work in investigations concerning the load-bearing behaviour of hollowcore prestressed concrete floors exposed to fire especially in relation to obstructions to transverse expansion.
