Sustainable construction is an essential component of sustainable and efficient dealing with the environment. Since concrete is – as is wellknown – the most-used building material worldwide, sustainable construction with concrete is of great importance. The concepts for planning, quality assurance and evaluation in sustainable construction have already been elaborated both at the European level and for the specific countries in Europe. The implementation of these concepts is currently at various stages. This article reports on the model developed in the Netherlands for the evaluation of the sustainability of buildings, and on experiences with sustainable concrete construction in the Netherlands.
