There are different philosophies in the processing of reinforcing steel. In many European states, predominantly in the German-speaking region, bars are cut using mobile cutting machines that move transversely in front of the bar store. Bending shops in Germany are almost all structured according to this pattern. This can be attributed to traditions and to transport and manufacturing processes that have developed over the years, as well as to the large number of reinforcing steel diameters that have to be processed. The manufacturing processes have changed very little since the processing of reinforcing steel was relocated from the building site to economically structured businesses. Effectiveness has been increased through improved work preparation, automatic stirrup bending machines and automatic bar cutters, but the actual manufacturing flow has remained unchanged.
