Franz Rampf Sr., the company’s founder, would certainly never have dared dream that one of the biggest mould manufacturers in the world for the concrete block industry would one day grow out of his firm’s small beginnings in the 1920s. In 1926, he founded a blacksmith’s work- shop that developed into a skilled trade business manufacturing steel moulds after the 2nd World War. Steel moulds for making chimney bricks were initially produced, followed by moulds for hollow blocks and floor blocks. Developments in the concrete block industry were accompanied by an expansion in product range. This led Rampf to begin manufacturing more complex moulds in greater volumes for kerb- stones and then, particularly since the beginning of the 1960s, paving blocks. In line with the demands placed on paving blocks, which have changed many times over all these decades and have naturally continued to advance, the technological demands placed on steel moulds have become increasingly more sophisticated and complex.
