In Eurocode EN 206-1 the k-value concept has been introduced as a prescriptive approach in order to take into account the characteristics of cements with additives with regard to durability issues when specifying concrete. In addition, degradation modelling is mentioned as an alternative flexible tool, as a performance-based approach not only for concrete specification but also with capabilities to perform service life design.
