When a building is designed and erected, the cost aspect is for every partner in the building process by far the most important one. When it comes to selecting methods and products, architects, designers and contractors choose the cheapest solution. These days, prefabrication is in most cases the most economical solution. But also the producer of precast elements is aware of the cost aspect and could prefer the lowest cost option. This paper highlights the shortcomings that this approach may have and discusses the technical and economic benefits arising from products that have higher costs but superior quality.
