The cement supply to concrete batching plants is a serious problem when the nearest cement plants are far away or when there are difficult climate conditions. This is especially true in the CIS states and Central Asia, where the climate can be extreme and there are almost no waterways to transport the cement. Consequently, cement has to be supplied in bulk form by trucks or rail cars. The typical annual capacity of a standard stationary concrete batching plant is around 300,000 m3 concrete per year, which requires about 120,000 tons of cement. Cement storage capacities for these plants varies from 500 to 3,000 t, depending on the distance to the cement plants and the availability of transport as apart from the amount and different types of cement used. Typically 2-6 cement storage silos are needed for each concrete plant.
