This article deals with the possibilities for future proofing production plants of the nineties and bringing them to a state of the art standard which is required to cope with the developments of the past two decades with regards to product details and product complexity and which are creating growing needs for improved production processes. A focus will be put on aspects and basics which are crucial for modernization activities and the possibilities for their implementation. The most common targets for plant upgrades is to achieve an increased production efficiency (manhour value), to extend the production capacity of the plant or the introduction of new products or product variants. On the basis of a number of case studies possibilities will be shown how even under unfavourable circumstances major improvements in the manufacturing of precast components can be achieved.
