Reducing the water requirement bygrain-size-optimised cements

Optimising the grading curve of cements

It is increasingly recognised that the factor most crucial to the durability of concrete is its freedom from cracks and tightness rather than its strength. These investigations show that the use of cement combinations within an optimised particle-size distribution not only leads to a marked reduction in the water requirement and a reduction in shrinking but also leads to compaction of the structure. The increased use of cements developed from grain-size-optimised additive types therefore also has a beneficial effect on the durability of concrete structures.
