Making concrete seems to be a straightforward process. Is it equally easy to make good concrete? There’s no definition of ‘good concrete’, of course, but we may suggest that good concrete is the one that makes a customer satisfied with the product and service and a producer happy. The key element in batching concrete is to make sure that concrete is batched as close as possible to the mix design, i.e. to the specified quantity (yield). Yield is a very important element as it is not only affecting the economy of a batching plant and customer satisfaction, but also influencing the concrete strength. For this, it is paramount that the total amount of water, which consists of batch water and free moisture of aggregates, is matched with that of mix design every time a new batch of concrete is mixed.
